It's been a long while since I played this game and with all the awesome new content I thought I'd give it another go. First off a huge shout out to the UI guys I'm loving the new interface! The graphics also have been improved 100%. The lighting is absolutely amazing! I'm still having issues seeing anything at night with ambient oscillation on, however that's a miner thing.

The one thing that's breaking the experience for me and my two brothers is the lack of an option to control the camera with the right mouse button. We are used to traditional RTS camera controls like the Command & Conquer games. Having to use the arrow keys is unnerving and ineffective for us. The way PA handles camera controls works in games like Supreme Commander, because of the flat battlefield, but now that we have planets to move around on, a more effective way to control the camera is needed.... Are there any plans to create this functionality in the future, or is there a way to enable it now? I've looked everywhere in the menus and found nothing.

If you're new, I think the one thing that would make camera controls better is pole lock, which can be enabled in the menu.

Now that I'm used to playing without pole lock though, I like it better than other camera systems.

theres an option to allow you to move your mouse to the edge of the screen, and I use it, but i just click and drag with middle mouse button now- its faster and gives more of the perspective of being on a planet, plus my finger is already there a lot of the time.

I usually zoom a lot and rotate the planet by clicking and dragging the mouse wheel button.

Thanks for the fast response! Pol lock definitely helps, I also forgot about the middle mouse button... I just wish there was some way to swap the functionality of the middle mouse button and right click in game.

using a trackball I pretty much had to switch to edge-scroll. Though I do a combination of edge scrolling and zoom hopping if I don't already have camera anchors.

Get one of those little programs to remap your keyboard momentarily. :)

I use a WASD configuration, which makes it easier to navigate while controlling units with my mouse. It's worth trying if you don't mind taking the time to rebind your keys.

Well I think a little modification of the UI files would do it. Currently it uses hardcoded numbers for the mouse buttons if I remember correctly. Something like replacing a few 3s with 2s in a live_game.js would do it.

Well he asked to "swap" the functionality, so the middle mouse button then. I am not saying I want to play like that :p
Though you can also give move commands with the hotkey for the move command and the left mouse button.

Isn't camera movement like that handled natively?

No it works like this: JS UI registers a press on middle mouse and calls "okay camera now follow the mouse movement" after a while the JS UI registers a release on middle mouse and calls "okay camera now stop". That's also why you can create the situation that you release the button and the camers keeps following your mouse if the JS UI is lagging/broken/your mouse is not in the PA windows while you release the button.
So you can change the button.

You mean the stalwart context-sensitive configuration of pretty much every RTS in the last two decades?
