So this is just an idea, I am not capable of organizing a real tournament but if you want to test this, maybe we will open some FFAs with our clan in the next days. We just played this for fun in our clan yesterday with 4 people but I want to present a system for any number of people (apparently 10 is the maximum number). Maybe some people here might enjoy this, let me know if you test it. Many people might ask: Isn't FFA too random to play a tournament? - Yes it is. My idea still has a random factor because you could spawn between two people and have a bad time. But you play multiple FFAs until you have a winner. And people get an incentive to attack certain players, so some players will be hunted Here are the basics (I will present some suggestions for modifiers below): - The players start with an eco modifier. - The number depends on the total amount of players. - Every round the player who is eliminated first, gets a bonus on the eco modifier for the next game. - The player who wins, gets a punishment on his eco modifier for the next game. - The goal is to reach an eco modifier of 0.5. So the closer you get to your goal, the harder it is. And the other players will always know who is closest to the goal, so they will focus certain people, not necessarily the ones spawning next to them. How does it work? Basically you have to make sure, that the total eco decreases each round. And you have to make sure that nobody can win the total thing by just winning 1 game. Here is a system , which might work: Starting eco modifier (for the first game): 1 + 0.1 x (1/2 amount of players) Eco loss and winnings: 2 Players: Winner -0.2, Loser -0.1 (-0.15 eco loss per round per player) 3 Players: Winner -0.2, Second -0.1, Loser +-0.0 (-0.1 eco loss per round per player) 4 Players: Winner -0.2, Second -0.1, Third -0.1, Loser +0.1 (-0.075 eco loss per round per player) 5 Players: Winner -0.3, Second -0.2, Third -0.1, Fourth +-0.0, Loser +0.1 (-0.1 eco loss per round per player) 6 Players: Winner -0.3, Second -0.2, Third -0.1, Fourth +-0.0, Fifth +0.0, Loser +0.1 (-0.83 eco loss per round per player) 7 Players: Winner -0.4, Second -0.3, Third -0.2, Fourth -0.1, Fifth +-0.0, Sixth +0.1, Loser +0.2 (-0.1 eco loss per round per player) 8 Players: Winner -0.4, Second -0.3, Third -0.2, Fourth -0.1, Fifth +-0.0, Sixth +0.0, Seventh +0.1, Loser +0.2 (-0.875 eco loss per round per player) 9 Players: Winner -0.5, Second -0.4, Third -0.3, Fourth -0.2, Fifth -0.1, Sixth +0.0, Seventh +0.1, Eigth +0.2, Loser +0.3 (-0.1 eco loss per round per player) 10 Players: Winner -0.5, Second -0.4, Third -0.3, Fourth -0.2, Fifth -0.1, Sixth +0.0, Seventh +0.0, Eigth +0.1, Ninth +0.2, Loser +0.3 (-0.09 eco loss per round per player) I just made these numbers up but I think they lead to a reasonable number of matches. Ok let us have two examples: 7 Players Starting eco for everybody is: 1 + 0.1 x (3.5), we round up to 1.4 Average loss is 0.1, so the tournament is over after a maximum of 9 FFAs and a minimum of 3 FFAs. 10 Players Starting eco for everybody is: 1 + 0.1 x (5) = 1.5 Average loss is 0.09, so the tournament is over after a maximum of 12 FFAs (maybe 11, I don't want to do the math ) and a minimum of 3 FFAs. tl;dr - Set up player eco and define eco loss and winnings for your FFAs. - Play multiple FFAs with the same people. - Adjust eco after every game according to my list or the list you make up for yourselves. - First to reach eco modifier of 0.5 wins.
No, see the example. With increasing player count, the amount of starting eco increases. After 1 win in a 10 player game, the winner has 1.0 eco. Oh, but I got my example wrong, because he wins after 2 wins and not 3, so maybe they should start with 1.6 eco.
I think unshared team games would be better. FFA is very imbalanced in it's nature, and that's why no other game has a competitive FFA side. Would it be fair that someone gets 3v1'd?
With dynamic alliances? Yes it would be. Part of the game there is making deals with people when you are in that situation. The game just happens a little too fast for that to work though.
I would love a FFA tournament, we were very close to announcing one a month or 2 ago, but decided against it the night before the announcement
