They make a valid arguement, it isn't healthy to expect a sheltered average environment, it makes you justify degrading and attacking abnormal people who should also have equal rights, and not be prepared yourself for any hardships in your own life.

If people were forced to be raised with a variety of wierd *** stuff, as long as it wasn't a "negative" environment, they would be more flexible to deal with personal issues and rougher lifestyles, and open to other people's hardship lifestyles without judging them as lesser people.

What about 45 and 208?

Their argument is certainly not valid. If it were valid people would have very little to complain about but as it is they have and spread a grossly inaccurate picture of the game.

So the anti-bible petition has over 54,000 signatures. Can't wait to see what happens.

I'm disturbed at the amount of likes your comment is getting, however. It doesn't speak well of certain posters' character.

It's a general statement not necessarily specific to the petition.

It is an ignorant statement that validates feminism.

I've seen more to support the statement than I have to dismiss it.

The whole "gamergate" thing has made anyone who speaks against feminism look like an ignorant manchild. Which is probably what they are anyway, since feminism does have a really strong case, especially when it comes to gaming.

GTA tries to wrap violence and acting like a psychopath in parody like that is a way to avoid all criticism. "B-b-b-but freedom of speech", "it is a joke", said every racist/homophobe/bigot ever.

But this is GTA so the whole thing is a manufactured PR stunt anyway, and I suppose any controversy like this is good because at least these issues are discussed then. Also it exposes the gamergate type bigots who feel threatened every time something like this happens, which is also good I guess.

Because you're not a woman, I suspect. Neither am I, but geez, just because "you seen stuff" doesn't make what you've seen representative of anything. Nor does it with mine, but I'm not the one stating my observations validate sexist statements.

But sure, give me a shout when games start including male hookers, and other often-derided settings. Or when men start wearing leotards and wiggle their butts in every possible scene.

The world of GTA is a satirization of the world we live in. There's nothing in there that's unbelievable, just exaggerated. Recently it came out that the CIA went a little nuts with torture after 9/11, this stuff happens and GTA just accepts reality.

Look I'm not saying that the actual concept of feminism is invalid, but every single time this sort of thing comes up it's always some draconian chest-thumping with misleading information and frankly absurd demands.

If a female character is even remotely sexually attractive you can bet your house some quasi-journalist is going to conjure up a storm of judgement which people get behind not because of the specific case, but because they support the basic ideals and will support anything they think is going to further that cause.

Oh and for the record I'm pretty sure Saint's Row has men in gimp suits.

Parents, family members, generally older people who are the main shopping demographic of the Target chain (look it up) are the ones that got the game pulled. Not feminists, not journalists, not anyone that you seem to be disparaging. Why are you blaming the wrong group of people for what happened here?

If someone says "group X is bad because look at the trolls", and you react because you dislike being lumped with the trolls? That's what you're doing with feminism, right now. It's not a singular entity. It's not monolithic. It's a worldview with a lot of differing opinions. White feminism is different to black feminism, the way the modern world accepts strong white female figures from strong black female figures, etc, et al.

Educate yourself, don't just go "nuh uh they're dumb because i don't like what they say".

GTA is pretty shallow as satire from what I've played. The point of satire is to offer criticism and expose idiocy in the real world. Satire says this is real, and why do you accept it? But I guess in a sense GTA does work really well as a social commentary, by exposing what people enjoy as entertainment. Though I don't think that is intentional really. Playing GTA IV made me question how violent most video games are, and why is shooting virtual people so popular.. why do people (or me personally to be exact) find it entertaining and so on.
