It is there to handle disconnects due to internet issues in a positive way. It also is there to help to stop people trolling or quitting when they see someone who they don't want to play come up in matchmaking.

The update looks good, but I have one small problem. I haven't found the option to turn off the "TOP RANKED PLAYERS" side bar on the main menu. How do I do that? Thank you for your time.

Currently no way to turn that off. Main menu is going to be completely redone in the next update however.
