if you want to read about what went on there. Here is a good article that talks about: Who owns the mods? Also if you want like to read more about modding issues here is a post I made a while back. I highly recommend you read the further reading section. It has a bunch of really excellent articles related to mod.

True, right now but what about later? Issues could arise when the mod scene becomes larger. I just don't want to see that entire Minecraft disaster happen here. Regarding ownership and mod packs.;)
    https://forums.uberent.com/threads/mod-code-licensing.49634/;)

edit: add'd regarding ownership and mod packs for clarity.

Actually the RCBM team has gotten a little iffy with us in the past when we requested to have a look at one of their .fbx files to see what we were doing wrong, as well as when we asked how they worked out how to make a fighter act like the A10-Wharthog. But that was back in last summer. xP

What about read access say to a arbitrary audio file in a arbitrary music directory? Also completely agree with you on Uber being cautious about integrating mods into PA. Due to resources and legal liability.
Yeah, all they're doing in the long run is shooting themselves in the foot and harming the entire mod ecosystem. The only way the modding community is going to grow is by everybody sharing information and collaborating with everybody else. A Commons needs to be fostered and everybody must be stewards of it or tragedy will occur.:)

I would say Uber's version of PAMM is the way to go. In the main menu. Front and center. That's it. The game is supposed to be a base platform, and all we need is either Steam Workshop support for mods or an in-game mod "store". Yes, with the option of creators selling their work through it and giving Uber a cut. Or giving it away for free. Up to them.

All they need is the convenience. People won't bother to torrent the mods if it's just 1 click ingame, and a couple £ or $ in cost. The same basic premise that made Steam so popular applies.

Win for Uber, as it keeps PA as a platform relevant. Keeps the game fresh. Done with 50hrs of vanilla? Get one of the balance mods, or unit mods, and there's quite possibly many more hours of fun in there. The orbital rehaul mod is what I play with the most these days for example, as I got a tiny bit tired of vanilla for example. Without it I wouldn't be playing any more at all.

Please don't continue that trail of discussion, I am sure the RCBM people have valid reasons for whatever they are doing and discussing this like this is not going to do anything good.

Essentially nanolathe asked what was in it for them, which I can respect. They shouldn't be obligated to give away things they created, and I haven't lost a pinch of respect for them in not doing so.

Well if it helps, all my mods are open to any mod developers to use for whatever they want, no need to ask!

who's complained about the intergrations of mods so far? noone. everyone's happy about it. even the modders. is it a surprise? no.
same thing's been happening over at faf for years now.

and it's not like there are only a few PA mods concerned (I lost my post where I listed the countless mods intergrated to vanilla PA. maybe i find it again one day).

Actual that's not true, we've been wanting to put mods in Vanilla for a while, there are a lot of mods that vanilla would really benefit from IMHO.

I want all this and your soul.

And whatever the kittens like to sleep on. Integration into the local indoor ecosystem will be much easier that way.

you guys evidently read my post backwards.

reading over it I can't see what the possible second interpretation was.

we don't disagree (unless you don't want uber to take your content but the first quote I made seems to contradict that) so I don't see why you guys are saying "that's not true".

you just said so yourself, I don't get it.
