I was watching a ZaphodX video, where he shoulted after someone controled his bomber! So, what about an color(like an Darker border) a indicator that a unit is being controled by an ally, this way someone will not change the perfect direction of yours bombers!
Fully agree. In my opinion, each team member should get to select their secondary colour, and any unit they have selected should be visible to all players on the team. The highlight could be exactly as it is now, except in the appropriate secondary colour of the player that has it selected.
Suggested this in a thread few weeks ago. Could be expanded to a complete information system for shared team games
Here is a quick way to add this to team games. Make the "ping marker" actually tightly hover whatever you are clicking, and remain on whatever you clicked for 30 seconds. Obviously no ping sound or alert. Just the visible circle. That way, anyone going to click something, can see your influence over it. In ZaphodX's case, the bombers he ordered would have the ping icon hovering on them as they flew, and his teammate would be a "full fledged ****" for interrupting them. Basically, the "teammates mouse" has the ping icon", the last thing he clicked or gave an order to has a ping icon for 30 seconds. I don't know if the game tracks the right things to implement this, but maybe @jables should pass this idea to the team, in case they ever feel like adding this polish or using this to push for team-ranked.
@Gerfand I think the thread title should be changed to... "What the ****, dude- that's my Commander!?"
Selection dots instead of a full ring around the unit that is selected, that would be a good and simple way of indicating it. Should work in spectator/chronocam too, with the rings colour based on the player's colour who selected the units. If you can't picture an idea of what that looks like, here's a random image from Starcraft 2: You can (almost) clearly see the coloured dotted rings around the units that the players have selected.
I would actually like to take this a stage further- and make it that when using quick hotkeys for selections (e.g. ctrl z) that no units *already selected by an allied team member* get picked up. Late game with lots of units it can be really difficult not to inadvertently cancel allies orders...
I don't think this would be a good idea. 1 player selects all units - all other players sit around shouting "why the f*** can I not select anything?!"
Note I'm only suggesting the lock out for the 'auto selection' options (e.g. select all of type). So ally player 'selects all units' and I try and auto grab tanks- I cant *but* I can still select them using selection boxes and so on. I can see it both ways really, though the situation i was thinking is more your in a big team game, I've got this nice group of bombers I'm micro managing to hold off an attack. My ally sees a new wave coming in from a different directions and selects all units whilst the first wave is still attacking. What currently happens is all my bombers disengage and run off after the new threat, leaving the base wide open. Hence the idea of lock out. It definitely needs thought though
If you're playing shared armies there is no "my" and "your". There is only "us" and "we". When playing shared armies you gotta think hivemind-style. WE WILL ADD YOUR TECHNOLOGICAL DISTINCTIVENESS TO OUR OWN. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE. Couldn't resist.
I would suggest doing something like Zero-K where your allys cursor is always visible on your screen as well. (Basically looks like a circle that matches the other players secondary colour) Yes this would involve giving each player in the team a different secondary colour. The units would all use the main and secondary colour of the first player in the team though.
