I created a virst version of Fields of Ises with the system designer of PA. It was a lot of work because this it is recreated from a flat map to a spherical map.

    Notes:
No control over starting spots so that is the one thing that is not the way I want it. (I don't know if spawns can be custom placed at the moment?)

I think this is the first SUPCOM map ever re-created in PA :p

[Edit: I did some improvements to the map and added some more metal and Islend with lots of metal inside the mountain as suggested by cola_colin. You can also try it out by importing this map]

[Edid 2: Made the map more like the orignal so without metal Island and did some improvements on the metal balance of the map]

To play the latest verion of the map download the map here, unzip it and import it in the system designer

I will add pictures later first I want to test it a little bit, it is also hard to take pictures from a spherical map to show that is looks like fields of Isis. Please for now join my hosted game in PTA

Metal can be placed in current PTE. Check current PTE notes. That would be the cherry on top, having "spawn metal" instead of standard PA "spread metal"

Also, is the map "mirrored"? I don't see how a flat map could work, unless it was mirrored across two hemispheres, in which case it is like playing 2 fields of ises at once. Or, the edges of the map could be wrap, but who knows what spacing issues that may cause.

It was a lot of work but I mirrored it quite well with mountains.

I am burning for the map export as to make a minimap of it just to compare :p

You can on a custom server by hard coding the spawn locations. Else not.

He is advocating the introduction of minimaps - burn the heathen! Jokes aside, the reverting this process might be even more interesting: Creating PA-maps from a flat minimap. What would one need for such an endeavour, I wonder?

Pfff.. it'd be a flat map, then once converted to a sphere it'd be distorted hardcore, ironic actually. X3

I am not just advocating it, I am doing it :p
Hmm... to revert the process I am doing to create minimaps I'd need to have:
    a) minimap data that shows something meaningful that a program can understand
    b) a way to place the right brushes by coordinates.

both are half possible right now I guess. Just not easy at all.

I'd imagine hefty sea maps like Setons or those reef maps could easily transfer onto a sphere

Actually it's the opposite, because if they did then both spawn islands would be incredibly close to each other due to how maps wrap around a sphere, kind of sad actually. :<

Make it a large enough planet and have the two large spawn islands on opposite hemispheres?

    exactly.

I imagined a setons map to sphere a long time ago.

i simply filled nearly half of the map with unpathable mountains.

air could go over but i don't really see the issue.
