yes you heard me right. water. not naval.

what's so cool about old water?

it had 3D modelled shape-changing for waves versus the current flat immobile sphere that uses sliding textures to recreate waves we have now.

shoreline with waves coming in and retreating back out

    you can almost hear it

    you're on the beach now

are you in your zen zone yet?

so anyone thinking about bringing up technical difficulties should talk it out first because you might be surprised to learn that these difficulties do not exist. And perhaps we should bring devs in here to talk about them @jables, @bgolus , @jorgenpt, @sorian, @UberGaf, @neutrino.

the reason it was originally removed was because of our helpful little friend ......can you guess it? drumrooooooooooooll!!

WYSIWYG! ahh! a round of applause for WYSIWYG!

    ok stop!

I never agreed that that was enough of a reason to remove one of the most enticing elements of PA's look. (and if it had been used as a surface for the ships it could have been about PA's enticing game mechanics as well)

So do we reiterate? bring this back? What suggestions to work around the unclear pathfinding issue? Was it ever an issue? did anybody loose a game because of this? *oh yeah one guy did.* .

make sure to post plenty of pics from old water days!

They weren't waves, it was the tide actually. :p

But plz Uber, the old water was beautiful, not even the tides, but the texture was just soooo much better. Now it's just one solid blue colour.

how the hell is a tide not a rise in water level? which can also be called a wave?

also English dictionaries specifically stipulate that the tide is relational to the moon and hence mooncycle periodic.

    whereas these happened every second.

at one point they added white marks on top of waves with extra white marks on shorelines too, but I don't have any pics of these :S

If those were supposed to be waves then those were some really bad waves. Note: there weren't actually waves, it just rose and fell.

Note the texture of the water, it at least looks like it's moving; the current water is bland.

@tatsujb Stahp changing your profile picture!

I can dig the cosmetic perky up of water. I can't dig water moving over parts of land irratically, it messes with what you expect.

Bring back the ripple white-bubbly sea foam look of water, but don't make the water swish at the edges.

Gotta admit though, that besides the water, everything else looks pretty damn awesome!

there are limits, the planets are too small, any bigger and you're as big as a PA plateau or a PA mountain.

    it was better then nothing.

    no other RTS had this.

Only thing I want is a water-ey nuke animation and proper erasure of water when you annihilate an earth-like planet.

I mean, ugh... Low tide and high tide. It shouldn't rise and fall. If it artificially does, it shouldn't at the edges so the "edge" isn't such a vague line.

I'm not sure I get you, actual 3D change in the water model that results in high tide and low tide is what this thread is all about.

and the line is never vague what’s the average of 8 and 4? well a visual average is even easier for our brain to figure out.

but the basic rule is if the water depth is paper thin, it's definitely not navy-pathable. at least that's the way I envision it.
