I am really having lots of fun with GW mode, now working through an Uber galaxy set on relentless. I picked up 3 subcommanders quickly, which was very lucky, and that has helped me get through 3/4 of the planets. However, I have noticed that subcommander AI is extremely variable. Some of them do a great job, whereas many times they do very little, or even nothing at all. In a game last night one SC actually just sat there and did not even make a single factory or unit (see attached image from 12 minutes into the game). Sometimes they will make hundreds of orbital units on a planet where no enemies are, and they never travel to the planets where the fights are taking place. Hence they are non-functional. I would really like to see some type of ability to tell subcommanders to attack something, even if that something is on another planet. The subcommander AI seems much wimpier than the enemy AI. Has anyone else found the subcommanders to have AI issues?
Sorian's supreme commander AI had control functionality, the AI listened to your pings if I remember correctly, so I bet he has plans for this It is just that Sorian is assigned to do other tasks, so it might take a while before this comes in.
