Let's not campaign against gas giants or whatever.

Look, I use them all the time and I CANT TELL YOU if they are OP or not. Not many folks know how to use them, so testing theories is quite difficult and nigh on impossible. There is not enough data to make a call either way, imho.

I'm not saying they're OP. But I am showing how powerful they actually can be, though.

Perhaps we need to DISTILL the Jig and Anchor into several units?

A energy jig, a metal jig, a storage jig, a AA anchor, a bombardment anchor, a anti-orbital anchor?

Of varying sizes, such structures could have lots of HP, but a interior area for fighters and defence anchors to defend humongous jigs like they were terrain (by interior, I mean a kind of no clip where stuff can fly and be built within, except for other jigs).

Yeah, figured that out. So I watched it. I'd pretty much make the same argument. They totally creamed you guys on the main planet right off the bat. If they had build one, just one single avenger to deny you building on the gas giant and made any effort whatsoever to contest you on the moon then none of the later game comeback would have happened. I mean they even had a deepspace radar! Idk what they were thinking, it's like they forgot there was more than just one planet. I still hold that it had nothing to do with the gas planet. But hey, I'm just a humble mortal.

Right, but it's still saying the same thing as, "having all the mex on the planet can be powerful." It's like... yeah... and?

That's a good idea but I think that would have to come with more orbital units in general. Like T2 orbital.

Well the SXX laser and advanced radar are technically T2 orbital, as the orbital factory is built by orbital fabbers, who in turn are built by a T1 orbital factory.

But yeah, these could be the first half if not third of a new balance/set of orbital units.

Metal extractors are no where near as effective as a gas giant economy, mainly because there is a minimal travel distance for the orbital fabbers, and jigs also produce 36 metal and 9000 energy.

Not to mention, they also come complete with storage.

Well I watched it. Thanks Kiwi!

But, uh, yeah. I can't see how this game says anything about the balance or need for unit diversity or whatever in orbital play - mostly because only one team played the orbital game in any way shape or form. Perhaps your opponents were just so used to playing single-planet games that they forgot that orbital existed? Perhaps they hate the orbital game so much that they refuse to play it in protest? Perhaps a mind-worm ate their memories of which hotkey builds an orbital factory?

    I have no idea which.

Yes, jigs are great, but you can land avengers directly on top of them and kill them in I think about 5 hits. You can land some avengers, kill a jig, and be gone almost before your opponent knows it. They are only awesome when people forget that they're made of wet paper.

Lastly, a word of advice: all-planet patrol of avengers on a gas giant (as seen in this game) is worse than useless. It has allowed me to trade avengers at something ridiculous like 5:1 efficiency in the past and regain orbital dominance in games where I was playing from behind. Tell your teammates not to do it it because its is naughty.

I did that because I expanded so much that I needed avengers at every possible location if the enemy tried to block a jig expansion path. The orbital layer does not show where enemy units are going to arrive on a planet.

If the enemy had as many avengers as I did, I would not have done that.

Btw, you have the most epic profile picture and if I weren't afraid of offending His Noodlelyness, I'd be jealous.

I had to make it 50KB maximum, which is an extremely low file size for gifs. It would have been more epic but i could not fit anything else in without making it look terrible or even faster :(
