Blargh, avoiding spoilers as I haven't played it yet (my Aussie friend loved the ending, so these contrasting reports - a Canadian I know isn't that impressed - makes me want to see more myself more. Alas, paychecks). What do we define as a story? Surely adding personality to a character by allowing that character to express their own sexuality is to be encouraged, no? There are so many outlandish heterosexual characters (and asexual characters, and downright non-categorised characters) throughout the Borderlands franchise, it seems odd that you're picking on LGBT (if I may generalise) characters specifically for their characterisation. Why not pick on Tannis? Or pick up on Axton? What about the romance of two of the original Vault Hunters (although given your dislike of BL2 that could be something you disagree with)? Or about the fact that the characters in BL1 were so flatly-established they had literally no character apart from the bits gleaned from the record tapes (that was then built on in BL2)?
I personally thought borderlands 2 was amazing comparer to the first. The first was fun, but 2 was the pinnacle. I've heard a lot of good things about the pre sequel and it's the same writer so I know it's probably good. Borderlands like you said is filled with overly into their sexuality or where they come from. Think about all the incest jokes with scooter, they constantly make it known that he's a redneck stereotype and wants it from his cousin. So I dunno, I wouldn't be surprised if the overly guy acting is just another thing for comedic effect. Also, comedy- what's funny is very, very subjective. Personally I really liked Borderlands 2's comedy, and so did the majority of players. It was just that dumb comedy that you love and really isn't so dumb.
I picked it up and well heres my impressions.. first off let me justify the price 1. It completes the story gap between part 1 and part 2 and the characters mentioned. 2. It completely mocks halo and the halo franchise in every way from master chief look alikes, to jump pad gliders, to the double jump, to armor lock type things. 3. you can play as clap trap.. people have been waiting years and wanting this as a dlc character 4. theres new elements, guns, class mods and such and even air mods 5. yes its the same game we all grown to love only enhanced.. 6. while it is expensive now theres tons of other games out with the same price tag which people think are worse.. nhl 2015?! 7. its a great series or game to play with 3 other friends while drinking or doing a lets play 8. the season pass dlc is 30$ 9. the new dlc character is the baroness 10. handsom jack !
Sorry but wasn't this obvious from the first few minutes of the first game? Only made more obvious from Borderlands 2 (especially the whole hole under sanctuary and the "go kill things cause i said so" quests) The premise of BL1 is that you're vault hunters who look for vaults and care about nothing else. You encounter psychopath humans that have been abandoned by Dahl and you kill them because. After freeing the local town you could've set up camp and lived there but you had to go and murder every non-standard human. So yes, you killed everyone who just happened to get in your way. All the way up to the vault. This is a game where you kill the stuff you encounter. Gay people don't exist for a higher plan. They exist. I don't see the problem here. Besides, i too know people who have to turn down people "cause i'm not into girls/guys". Gay people come in all sorts. Most of them you wouldn't know realize until they told you. Whether it's clunky or not is a matter of opinion. Most of the pop culture stuff comes from the side missions and DLC. Some characters by the way, are meant to be walking pop culture references. E.g. Mr Torgue who is the typical ubermacho from the 80's, Tiny Teena who is crazy (but can you blame her? that backstory is very, very dark). There's references to gaming culture in BL2 (where, by the way, you have to kill people because torgue said so, hence the crazy psychopath thing). Playing a bit more, i'm having massive trouble remembering that girl with the scrap imporium's name. Oh and props for Merrif. We already tried to call other planets Tatooine and stuff so yes, 500 years into the future when we colonize alien worlds someone would totally dibs Merrif.
Complete lack of creativity. "Let's just give her an aimbot with increased fire rate and reload speed!!! Great idea !!"
Well that's not bad design per se, just boring. Bad design would be having the screen flash psychedelic colours and your movement speed tripled.
