Based strongly on entertainment value... I think I like that metric so long as they like the premise of the game. Interesting review, though I actually would have prefered it was a 7-8/10.

'The community behind the game is fairly large, with YouTube channels providing lots of information for beginners.' Does this guy even know what a large community is?

Pretty terrible review in my opinion as he seems to just ignore major aspects of the game.

if you're subscribed to a PA caster it's easy to think the word is being spread and the content is huge.

but the reality is nobody I talk to has ever heard of PA.

Im on a games course at uni so quite a few of my friends have heard of it, but the amount who have played it or continually play it is another matter.

It drove home just how little impact PA is having reading through this thread which was on the front page of /r/games for the last two days: http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/2jnfkp/what_happened_to_rts_games_did_i_miss_something/

SupCom - a 7 year old game, gets more recommendations than PA. And whenever PA is mentioned in that thread, it's in a negative light.

Thats because uber really fucked up by launching the game in a broken state. The best they can do now is to fix the game completely, and hope that its reputation recovers.

Really? Its broken, plays fine to me. Just because some features didnt make it into the game at launch, doesnt mean its broken.

    It's not in running state.

private or corporate, we can't get a server to run it really good.

Even if it ran perfectly, the game is still broken due to terrible balance. That may change soon, but when release came around, the only time that it mattered, the game was broken. As a result, we see all these 5-6 / 10 ratings. This is the only rating i have seen being so high, and its an unfair rating for the current state of the game too.

Reputation is a powerful thing, and it comes right along with age with a good game. Of course they recommend SupCom, it was first and it's already known, modded and fixed. PA is still new and borky. 7 years from now when SupCom can't run at all, PA will be recommended, right along with it's mods and community patches.

I was happy to see offline mode released but last night I tried to play 1v1 AI and when I fired the Annihilaser the game crashed as the planet was exploding. FFS. Can't win..

What made the difference is that TA & SupCom right out the gate set great first impressions, and only improved on that. Search for "Supreme Commander reviews" and right from the outset it was clear people considered it a great game.

I think the trajectory of PA will honestly be closer to SupCom 2.

But supcom ran TERRIBLY when it first came out. :S

It's still limited because it isn't multi-threaded, late game can still have some issues... It's sad.

Yea, PA runs significantly better and is better balanced than the 1.0 version of Supreme Commander. It did have offline, saves and a ladder. Still the Release of Supreme Commander was considered a botched release. Most people bought the game years after it was released.

Yep, and we can't forget that it was basically a failure if you consider the fact it caused GPG to go bankrupt! :c

Yea, despite the fact that Supreme Commander ended up being an amazing game that became very popular and is still being played today. I guess it just does to show you, if you launch a game that doesn't run well, your going to get burned for it even if the problems are fixed later.

That and Demigod, which was a multiplayer only game that launched without working multiplayer.
