Searched here and didnt find a thread so i made one First off is this game worth getting?? It fills in the story between borderlands 1 and 2... The characters are new and unique The game consistantly mocks halo in every way and call of duty. One of the acheivements is 360 no scope... The jump pads in the game are exactly like halos with the treadmill gliders You have oxygen class mods and killing things gives you air... The game has the same voices your all known to love. IS it worth it? So far to me yes it is.. its got more classes and weapons and gadgets.. new elements.. double jumps and fills in the rest of the story.
I am loving it. If you enjoyed Borderlands 1 and 2, you'll love the Pre-Sequel. It's Borderlands. I mean come on... it's Borderlands! It's everything that you've come to know and love about Borderlands with some new stuff. The characters are fun. The dialog is hilarious like always. The storyline is quite good (I'm barely into the storyline so far though, but the evolution of Jack is great so far). There's new creatures, new mechanics, new weapon types, new damage types... If you liked the previous Borderlands games, you'll like the Pre-Sequel.
That's why i got it for a 25% discount. Really if you look around for like 5 minutes you can easily find discounts.
The low-gravity stuff is so unbelievably fun, I thought it'd be a shitty gimmick but no it's pretty damn awesome. Also the scaling is a lot less B.S. than it was in BulletspongeLands 2. Overall it's the usual shoot-and-loot with lower gravity and some better writing than the second. Also, to address the elephant in the room, Anthony Burch is involved in the writing of BL TPS more than we were lead to believe and IT. SHOWS. The first two or three hours of the game are filled with his insufferable crap, but once you get past that it gets better. I assume that's because someone from 2K Aussie took over but I don't know the facts. Spoiler: Plot related spoilers Also, Handsome Jack is handled really oddly, his descent into madness is pretty gradual and subtle at the beginning but at the last few parts of the game he just kinda jumps from mildly evil to Handsome Hitler with no middle ground which was kind of weird. The ending was pretty damn stupid, too. Won't say much but I will say that Lilith's actions are beyond nonsensical and she deserved to be shot instead of Athena.
They did a great job fixing the shops stock, drop rate, combat and level scaling from BL2, but unfortunately it is just a large dlc, rather than anything revolutionary. I'm finding it enjoyable but imo I feel like it really lacks the character of the BL2 story.
I played a pirated copy of this for a couple of hours (there's no way I'm paying $70AUD without taking it for a test ride) and I have had enough of it already, uninstalled, will not be purchasing. The biggest problem is the absolutely cringe-inducing writing and voice acting. They really need to dump Anthony Burch (though this garbage seems to sell so I guess I speak as a minority). It's just more of lol, memes and pop culture references and a hefty dose of SJW bullshit like shoehorning in gay characters, not because it works for the story but just diversity for diversity's sake. Some modder needs to go in there and get rid of all the character audio and subtitles and the game would become bearable. It has been pointed out here already that they are charging full AAA premium price for what amounts to a large DLC pack for BL2. The recycled assets are eveywhere, there is no noticable enhancement to the engine/graphically and the new oxygen system and laser guns do not add significantly to gameplay. Do not purchase. If your curiosity gets the better of you, just get the torrent but I wouldn't even waste the bandwidth.
If you're a fan of Borderlands, then you'll probably enjoy Borderlands The Pre-Sequel. The gameplay has been mixed up with the inclusion of low gravity as well as a new weapon and elemental type that makes for a refreshed taste of that game you enjoyed before. If you're stingy with money, I'd save buying it until you can get it cheaper. If you don't mind splashing out then go ahead, buy the game and enjoy it. The story and writing is crap, it feels very forced and it breaks a lot of characters for no good reason. A good example would be your former friends, Lilith, Roland, and Moxxi, suddenly grow a conscience after you kill a group of people under the suspicion that one of them are going to betray you. The people who, for the first and second games, are made out to be nothing else than being short of psychopathic murderers who aren't scared of killing thousands of bandit camps simply because they got in their way. Gameplay wise, if you enjoy the game then you'll love TPS. Car controls are a bit weird on the moon; until you get the hover bike.
Anthony Burch, who wrote barely none of TPS? Sounds like you have a hate-boner for this guy, did he insult you or hurt you physically in some way? Do you dislike the inclusion of gay people (a perfectly normal and natural thing that exists in real life) in video games? If so, you might want to look into that. It sounds like a bit of prejudice. Bolded for opinion that is in no way a decision that should impact anyone elses' enjoyment of the game. But yes, TPS is a DLC for BL2, totally. BL2 was just a DLC for BL1, after all. I'm ashamed they've released two whole games when they really should've just released it all as DLC for BL1!
Defining a character's sexuality at all is completely pointless unless it adds to the story or moves it along, no matter what you define it as. The reason people get so up in arms (or at least the reason I hope people get up in arms) about homosexual relationships specifically is because Anthony Burch or whoever wrote this has no idea how to write homosexual characters. What you do is treat them like any other character. What you don't do is take every single opportunity you get to remind us that they're gay. This is a problem a lot of movies have too, and I seriously can't understand why. It's like everyone who writes gay characters has never met a gay person in their life and are just going off of stereotypes.
I was just trolling the guy xD Pro Tip for writers though - gay people are exactly the same as straight people.
I believe Sir Hammerlock in Borderlands 2 was gay, he only hinted at it saying a boyfriend of his blah blah blah in one of the missions. This was very subtle and not super in your face. Not sure who wrote BL2, but if it's the same guy then I can only imagine this new gay couple was only for comedic effect. Note: I have not actually played the new game.
Burch wrote most of BL2. He wrote barely any of TPS. As far as I know, he's also gay, so the notion that he can't write one is quite funny. Unless you have specific insight you wish to share, @Tehtrekd?
He's actually bisexual, according to his Twitter feed. Also, saying he wrote "barely" any of TPS is a bit of an understatement. He wrote unique gun descriptions (which isn't that big, obviously) and AFAIK was in charge of most of the sidequests. He also was provided as a complement to 2K Aussie's own writers according to TPS' wiki, so one can assume he had a hand in some of the main story, though how much of a hand we may never know.
Ahh, you're right there, my bad. And yeah, the quotes from his Twitter are that he wrote 90% of BL2 and didn't write 90% of TPS. Or something along those lines. But yes, do you have any insight to talk about writing gay characters? The first step is to treat them naturally, from what I've observed (Mass Effect's Steve Cortez, and as mentioned Sir Hammerlock from BL2) - normally, even. However, there are also stylised characters who act much like they do in real life. Some of them enjoy acting it up (an acquaintance from university was a self-admitted diva and liked putting on the voice, effects, etc. - it worked for him). That, however, is purely my own anecdotal experience. It seems like people have more of an issue with Burch, and try to justify this through several means.
My insight I guess would be to diversify your cast. If you want to make a character that makes a big deal about being gay, be it for comedy's sake or what have you, that's fine, but one is enough. The more characters like that you put in the less funny the joke becomes and the more annoying the character type becomes. Also as I stated above, there's no good reason to define a character's sexuality unless it adds something to the story. Keep in mind though I don't think that the badly written gay characters are a deal breaker. It's a small blemish on an otherwise pretty good game and I can get around it, nothing in the game's narrative is overly awful (except arguably the lackluster ending) unlike Borderlands 2 which was so amazingly bad that I can make an entire series of Red Letter Media style video reviews of the game dissecting every aspect of the story's almost commendable amount of awful.
