For the past few weeks, at least, it is almost impossible to start a game with 6 or more planets. It takes my PC sometimes 5 minutes to load the planets when they already should have been loaded in the lobby.

Right from the start of the game, after the lobby transitions into the solar system view, I experience major MAJOR lag, everything becomes unresponsive and i can't do anything, or it will freeze the game and make me Alt-f4, which sometimes takes an even longer amount of time.

I run the game on near uber settings, because i can run just about every other game including the ones like Crysis 3 maxed out.

Other people with similar or sub-par systems are able to spawn in faster than me sometimes instantly, while i don't even have the chance to see the spawns because of the 2 minute countdown.

Posted my directx diagnostic here but to say the least i have 8GB or ram, a GTX 770 with 2gb VRAM running at 1260MHz, and an i5 3570k running at 4.2GHz atm.

I honestly have no idea what the cause of this is.

OK the lag, this maybe your network, in game was fps are you getting?
Are you running latest nvidia drivers?
Have you made changes to you nvidia settings?

Just thinking out loud, maybe one of your HDDs is during.

    I don't think that's the problem. In fact, it's usually around 60mbs.

And I run this game on my SSD. Which is even more peculiar.

Yes i'm running latest drivers. Unless Nvidia just ninja'd me again.

I can't even open the debug UI-thing to show fps. I'm sure it's around .00000000011 FPS.

Six or more planets? You may very well have used all of your 8 GB of memory and your computer is now trying to use the pagefile, which would result in massive slowdowns. Either get more RAM or use smaller planets if you want to use six or more planets.

Each planet uses aprox 500mb-1.2gb ram depending on the size,
I have seen some planets use up to 3gb or more if its an earth, desert, or tropical, biome with the water height set below 5.

i recommend trying 6 size 600 planets with water height set to between 20-38 on the planets that have water.
It should use about 6 - 7 gb ram leaving some free for the UI and client/server.

I have a similar system to yours only with a prior generation GPU. It is probably your ram running out and paging to the vastly slower SSD/HDD, especially if you are running the local server. You really should get more ram (and it is certainly cheaper than most of the other upgrades you could do).

Well i guess ram is the way. I'm just slightly confused at why other people with 8gb of ram spawn in so much faster.

    Lower settings require less ram?

Only lower textures if i'm not mistaken.

bringing it down from medium to low does very little to help.

    Also depends on background programs.

Well, there is also this since build 72908:
Playing with those can reduce memory usage at the cost of more work for the CPU.

If you’re saying other people with almost same setup as yours are having no problem, please check the following below

Update divers, no sure if this is the lastest drivers from nvidia??

Install GPUz "http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/", and capture a log, of you starting the game and trying to play. I want to see if the GPU is waking up to the game or is still in idle. Also this will show use if the game is runing out of vram.

Also please make sure that Nvidia control panel settings are all set to default. this will have a magor impact to the game if settings are set to high.

On last thing, Whats this for? looks like a 9GB HDD...
    Drive: D:
    Free Space: 9.1 GB
    Total Space: 9.4 GB
    File System: NTFS
    Model: ST1000DM003-9YN162 ATA Device

It's not my gpu or drivers.

My D: drive is the windows recovery partition.

No reason not to update your drivers, http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/77837/en-us
So any word on the GPUz suggestion or nvidia control panel settings?

    More questions, :D
Do you use a memory drive software to speedup your SSD? e.g. Samsung Magician software (sets aside system memory as a cache/buffer)
Can you Alt-Tab and get a screen shot of system memory in game Task Manager will be fine, to rule out your system memory overflowing to page file?

I am having the same problem, i made a post about it too, i have a gtx 760, intel core i5 4670k, 8gb ram, running the game on the minimum settings, Latest drivers. It still takes about 5-6 minuits of unresponsive loading or crashing. I even sometimes crash on just 2 or one planets.

I found that lowering textures to the lowest setting significantly reduces the amount of memory being used. When i play on a large system, i turn the textures down to low.

And remember, just because a system has lots of planets does not mean it will always require lots of horsepower; it depends on the surface area of each planet. A system with 2 radius 1300 planets (SA=4.24E7 units^2)is actually far bigger than a system with 8 radius 300 planets (SA=9.04E6 units^2).
