I'd like to see some sort of storyline to go with the concept of GW. A back story if you will, to add depth. I would also like to see tech gathering related to derelict artifacts left over from the great war. Like, after the commanders woke up, they set about gathering the lost tech from systems, to aid their effort in taking over the galaxy. other commanders are also doing the same. This would take care of the 'no bases' problem and, also give some context to GW. If some tech is intrinsic to some commanders, having to defeat them all is logical in collecting all the tech there is.

In GW standard game, faction leaders hold one of the main techs each. Either Air, Land, Sea, Orbital etc. The faction sub commanders hold some of the more basic tech orm particular structure blueprints. You gotta get them all...

Thats my 2 pence worth anyhow. But, something needs doing to GW, thats without question.

There is a back story to GW, it's just that barely any of it is IN the actual game.

Also, the factions all have a bare bones description of who what where why and how on themselves.

People like me have taken to speculating on what their purposes are to, you know, make them have logical reasons for bothering to fight and not unifying into 3 or 2 factions.

i think they should do the story mode something like Star Wars Empire at war where you can make you own choices but there are loosely tied in story missions that happen once in a while

GW does really need some love. It's more of a proof of concept than an actual GW.

The enemy Commanders need to move around and attack your systems and stuff.

There simply needs to be strategy to the turn based portion of GW rather than just random skirmishes strung together

We have it on the list for future love. Have a designer already putting a lot of thought into it in his spare time, but currently buried in other things. Just posting so you know we agree it's not there yet :)

Sorian has talked at times about making AI's with "personalities" that behave differently. If that were applied to the factions in GW, it would kick ***.

Sometimes I bolt upright in the middle of the night in cold sweats, then I just imagine Jables telling us about how it's going to be and fall back to sleep with a smile on my face.

I really hope it to be RISK like, that you can set commanders to defend captured areas and that you fight the battles that take place. Like you get /build a few subcommanders every turn that you can send to defend. And you also have your own faction leader where you fight with. The defending sub commanders are just for defending the areas and you gain territory by fighting with your faction leader.

Here you can keep the tech finding stuff in and you have an awesome game for playing with friends. ;) Online with friends you ofcourse also fight the incoming attacks from your friend with your subcommander. This way you can still loose without losing the GW game.

This would make the galactic conquest really a war with gaining and losing territory. And it would be an awesome online game against friends as well ^.^

I also hope that that guy will read this thread!

Look to DOW: Dark crusade. That was fun. Wouldn't it be nice to land on a planet with more than just the commander, have some actual units, and the AI already has an established base?

That's really a feature request. Really, what I want right now is for the bugs to be quashed. Then add more stuff.

That game also had the problem of attacking fortified positions, where such positions would often be un-assultable without a large starting army.

And the problem with having a starting army, is that is makes the entire games premise pointless.

You know, the point of having commanders.

Imo they could take a lot of hints from how Rise of nations did it. The planets you conquered can give you extra units, resources, armies or tech, that you can see before you attack them (but you have to hold them to keep the advantages).

You can have multiple armies, that reinforce each other similar to risk, so if you attack a territory with an armie adjacent to it you would have to fight the reinforcements too (a subcomander).

Stuff like that can turn this game into a classic. It can be implemented gradually. And it would make the single player awesome!

Rise of Nations also did automation of needless micro very well - lots of inspiration to draw from this game, really.
