A long time ago, Uber talked about adding in a cloaking system. Mainly it had to do with mines, but they also mentioned that they were (or were considering, can't remember) going to add a cloak to the Commander. If memory serves me, it was during their 14 (or whatever) hour live stream. It would consume a lot of power, but would be an easy snipe prevention. Instead of skipping out on an epic battle and sniping the commander, players are forced to go through the war of attrition and take out power plants to cause the enemy to go into the negative power in order to reveal the commander. I think it's a fantastic addition and great way to prevent snipes. Any word on this happening? Or is it a forgotten or postponed feature?
I'm ok with it, as long as cloaked units still show up as radar blips (like mines do) when exposed to radar.
No I don't want endless games of attrition I like snipes and they are hard enough to pull off already. SSX seems to be unable to shoot at a walking commander anymore unless it was a bug.
Most of what was said in those streams was purely speculative. There's very little point in dredging things like this up now as it is incredibly likely that there are higher priorities. Cool idea, but just that; an idea.
You must not have read what I wrote – because I made it very clear in my post that this wasn't a set in stone addition. Nevertheless, it is a nice addition and worth discussing. There's very little point in discussing ideas? Isn't that the point of the forums? Discussion? Of course there are higher priorities, but does that mean we can't talk about anything except for whatever the highest priority is? No duh it's an idea – that is why it's a good thing to talk about. Toss around ideas for implementation and balance. Possibly come up with something completely new due to the discussion. Why are you trying to stifle conversation, especially now that you're a mod?
I guess I'll go on the defensive then; to me your post was worded as if it was a likely addition that the devs could be actively thinking about. As for trying to stifle discussion, no sir, I personally however prefer to exercise caution when speculating about 'features' in the PA community especially of late. My worry is that some will see the post and assume it as legit and then keep going on about it down the line. But if you wish me to leave this thread, I shall do so ¬_¬
My post made it pretty abundantly clear that it wasn't a confirmed addition. You said: Which has nothing to do with speculation or confusing people about whether it was confirmed or not. You're pretty specifically saying "there's no point in talking about this regardless of speculation or what" If you were concerned about people being confused about it being confirmed or not, then you should have just said that this wasn't a confirmed addition (even though my post was pretty clear that it isn't confirmed) and not mentioned anything about not talking about the cloak.
You can do it, but telling them to attack him will mess it up, cause they pause for a tiny bit before firing when following. Tell them to move over his path and they'll take the comm out no prob.
not realy intrested in commcloak (no visuall) .... i can see that becomming a nightmare in multiplanetmatches i am open however for stealth (no radar blip) as that would make scouting more important ...
While I see the concern, with a high energy demand it wouldn't be much of an issue. Even if the Commander is hiding somewhere, it would require a sizeable power field to keep the commander cloaked. Take out the power, cloak doesn't work anymore.
I'd be happy with a non-assassination game mode. Like, supremacy of some sort, but let's say you're considered dead when you got less than 10k metal worth on the field left (unless you still have a commander). (to avoid the 10 minute search for that last little mex somewhere) That said, cloaking would be nice though, (if balanced correctly) it could add some depth with the energy needs and all. My input to this idea would be that the "cloak" would be more of a disguise than an actual invisibility (cape). Let's say it'll turn you into a power gen or metal storage. An option to pick which building would be a nice feature.
