hi there played pte last night and definitely noticed improvements, but as others have said, still getting units (particularly fabbers ) getting stuck by buildings and the large terrain cracks. On a side note so exited about the server announcement, cant wait to give it a try...
Yeah, what bgolus said. See also the settings screen. It has a new [SERVER] tab, which you likely won't need since it defaults to auto. Just yank your ethernet cable for the ultimate test.
Jup here with an i5-4690k, had a very very smooth game and I plugged the internet cable out midgame for testing. Game didn't even notice it and played very smoothly ^^ I really love that you simply do not notice any difference gamewise between uber server or local server
had a little play last night, I also found the server exe. If i wished to host on another computer can I just copy the server.exe to a usb key and move it to the other mashine or do I need to install the whole game. Dous any one have a link on how to set up the server? Looks like it may be pretty tricky..
You need the whole thing. The server.exe uses many of the json files, hence the moddability. And setting up the server on another machine is still tricky, yes. Only a PA client on the localhost can connect to it at first. That client then sets the server to "public", at which point it will be available on the LAN. So you'd have to ssh to the remote box with port forwarding to appear local on the server. More info can be found here. It's for Linux, but it should be similar on the other OSes.
