During Alpha and Beta, when a Commander exploded, the sound was epic. I could hear it from other planets. It really gave the vibe that a Commander is a powerful machine of epic proportion, and that once it explodes it cause massive impact. Right now, if I ain't wrong, the sound effect for a similar event it's much less epic. Is it something in my settings, or is it in fact that the death of a Commander is no longer noticeable as it was back then?
i think they toned it down as back then it sometimes caused confusions weither or not someone has been nuked f.e. same also goes for screenshaking as that was annoying at times while playing on a different planet ...
I see. Personally I really liked the epic rumble when a Commander was defeated. It sounded impressive. Perhaps it's just me, but I like to think that the destruction of a commander releases way more energy than a simple nuke. Plus, when a player loses his commander is a much more relevant event than when a nuke hits a random spot on the map.
As Com Bombing began to be a serious issue in Team Army + Shared Army games, the explosive force of the commander was significantly reduced. It has much less damage and does not reach the orbital layer anymore.
The sound effect based on the explosive force relative to a nuke. Currently the commander has less explosive force then a nuke, so the explosion being not louder makes sense
Well yes, but a commander explosion I'd very serious, no matter if it were enemy or friendly, I like the alert it gives you with the sound.
Aside that when your commander explodes, you're out. In that regard nukes and commanders have a very different impact on the match. Same when others' commanders explode. A nuke might mean nothing. A commander explosion often means that an adversary is out of game. Often is also the end of the match. It needs to be more epic.
Like that cannons in Hunger Games xD I'd like to see that epicness again. Comms are definitely more important than nukes, despite damage and all.
