Is it possible to put an upper limit on the ai apm? Would this help late-game performance?

Would be really nice if the AI used some of that APM to press the build button and actually build metal extractors on it's planets ~_~

Honestly you should go to the support forum and report your issues, I've never had it just stand there doing nothing. Not since Alpha. :p

i remember the brutal ai in sc2 would clock around 2000 apm xD
However on a more serious note, more apm does mean more *stuff* is happening which in turn can cause lag, when blizzard didnt bother using more effecient methods, the Brutal ai would lag everyone else out, until now where they tend to cap at about 300, which is the same as a pro, making the game more stable
Just be careful with APM, more doesnt always mean better

There are many cheesy strategies to kill AI, most of them have one thing in common:
Defend from initial T1 unit spam (with well placed turrets) get fast to T2 or orbital and take over another planet.
Another trick that does wonders against AI: leave one weak spot in defenses as trap, everything will go just there, then kill it with fire.

AI is playing quite good, but it does not adapt. For AI every game is first one, while we learn and remember how AI is doing certain things.

Well thinking of AI, it is great on tactical level but quite dumb on strategic one. For eg. does not recognize importance of metal planets, gets confused with hallesy (does not fire it as long as commander is there, while commander keeps building factories, even more havoc when AI has ally commander there). Or builds single turrets all over planet with no defense lines or at least more turrets on side where enemy is attacking. And best AI trick while playing with subcommanders in GW is AI building single turret right in middle of empty space in my base, space that i left for T2 factory, after such insult i usually waste 2 nukes on that dumb tincan.

I started playing again after a several weeks long break recently, and I could still beat the absurd AI (and not with cheesy strats, I just plain outplayed it in 1v1 3 or 4 times).

The AI is good, but it's not at Skynet levels... yet.

The AI is okay, but it dosent protect its commander very well, most of the time it just takes on large armies where it doesn't stand a chance.
