    I spotted this in the comments below the offline mode announcement on Reddit, and since this is another of the most frequently requested features, I thought people might appreciate a very brief synopsis on the status of saving games.

    For those of you for whom a click is a task too far:
    I have a suspicion that our ever-prolific modders might make some attempt at a rudimentary implementation of the save functionality after the October 9th release, but don't hold me to that.

    People aren't going to listen to this. Saving has been part of games for so long and has become such a standard feature that a game that doesn't have it because it's hard to code in is inconceivable, no matter the truth.

    Truth. I wish more gamers knew enough about programming to know how bad at programming they are.

    BTW: I don´t think we need save, I think we need In-Replay-Hopping, so you while you are watching a replay you´d be able to join the site you want!
    This would be well better than saving and...
    ...well, it´s just a brilliant feature anyways! But that´s something for long-term-dreaming!

    I don't know what you're talking about, this is the most basic thing ever:

    Code:
    var = game_time

    if (save_button_is_pressed) then save_state(game_time)
    Come on Uber, step it up.

    /s

    Would that actually work or are you just pushing the button on purpose to bring a fistful of haters here to be like "OH UBER IS SO BAD"? I mean for all you know they tried that first off.

    Makes sense to me.

    What's a var?

    I'm not that hopeless I know what a var is.

    I did include a "/s" at the bottom of my post which I'd hoped might indicate sarcasm ;)

    There are so many things wrong with that pseudo-code snippet I don't know where to begin :p and the only thing I've ever been able to code successfully is 'Hello World'

    Then how can you even know there is something wrong with the code you posted?
    It's perfect!

    okay where have you defined the syntax for this new language you use there? Where it the implementation for save_state? Why does it remind me a little of javascript, which is very unlikely to be used for this?

    Sorry, I had no idea what the /s stood for. And I'm just getting really sick of all the bad publicity Uber is getting for trying to be a developer... Edit: I mean all I have to do to PROVE working on a single game will lead a studio to failure is MNC and SMNC. The guys who are hating on the development of two games at once need to pull their head out of their asses, maybe the smell of fresh air will make them less negative.

    So when you make version 2 your marketing slogan can be "Two Wrongs finally made a right"?

    I so want this supposed feature of replays and chrono cam to actually be a thing. That, and scale-ability of the game client/server were most of the reason I supported this game in the first place. It is nice to see some action on offline, and I do see it as a step towards having control over the scale the game can have. I just wanna be able to dynamically save a game, cus I wanna play in big solar systems which might take a while........

    The other reason I supported was the fact that an rts on multiple (spherical) maps is actually a fun challenge to play :D

    I feel like the intricacy of the replay/chronocam system is a feature that's not perfectly suited to RTS.

    If PA was more of an E-sport, with fast action that you don't want to miss, then having instant replays viewable from any point in space/time within the game would be INCREDIBLE. I can definitely see any future competitive/commentated games taking advantage of it... but for me, that's not why I like PA. I like PA for its massive armies and a mix of short-term panic fabbing and long-term orchestration.

    If they implement the Chronocam tech in a more micro-heavy game with a more competitive bent (cough cough HR) then it'll likely pay off in spades.

    Actually I feel the opposite. Often there is too much going on and the action is just too fast. I would use chronocam a lot more if I had time to stop and look back at something.

    I actually use I surprisingly often because if I noticed some units are missing, I like to know what got them. It can be pretty helpful.

    Well, I guess that's fine provided you don't have a problem with 4 GB save files. Given how much memory PA uses, that might actually be a lowball estimate in some cases.

    (And yes, I know that was sarcastic, but still, thought I'd mention it).
