Wouldn't mind finding a way to create our own Solar System. :D

Right now it's not possible with the somewhat limited system editor. Probably will be saved as a mod or in a future patch with an improved system editor.

I'd hope this becomes moddable once we have the server. Hopefully Uber will provide some simple hooks so we can basically replace the random generator with a "generator" (read: a file-loader that opens a file generated by a 3rd party map editor) without having to completely reverse the executable.

    EDIT:
Further thinking: It would be cool if Uber could store systems that a player has generated so they stay stable even after the random generator is modified. A community mapeditor could then work with that file format.

I thought the 'server' was released at launch?

I dont even know what it is so i'm probably wrong.

The server is the thing you need to play offline. The thing that everyone asks for all the time. How did you miss that? :p

Don't understand what you mean by Solar System if we have the system editor- aren't the systems made there considered solar systems?

    Okay I got it, miscommunication

I guess you can make Mars by putting a lava planet with very lowest water level

Well... by strict definition no. Solar refers to "in relation to Sol". There is only one Sol, our sun, the sun. Personally I define a sun as any star with planets orbiting it but officially, sun and solar only refer to our cosy little home.

the sun is our named star... and this solar system is like all solar systems a system of solar aka system revolving a star... :D

then you have bi-solar systems and tri and so on then some other weird names

that means yes, since every system in this game has an identical sun.

It means no because it's not the sun.

I think the main thing needed to make more Earth-like maps is less rigidity in temperature zones. It just doesn't look very cool when there are solid lines separating desert, temperate and ice regions on the planet. Some more randomness in that, and more mountains(preferably a slider to set the amount of such environmental features) would go a long way. Also, polar ice caps on oceans.

Mountains and stuff are controlled by "height range".

well no because you can't make a planet... but if you could and we have more colors for moon-like planets you would be able to make the solar system

Are you sure about that? It seems to me that it only controls the actual height variance of the ground. The effect is most apparent on small planets of course. But the number of features such as craters, cracks and mountains seems to be the same regardless, particularly on Earth biomes where the features are generally scarce regardless.

Most of the time it better to refer to our sun as Sol, which I believe is French.

    And our moon a Luna.
