Radial Menus are nice but there not quite as flexible.

And by which I mean flexible with your camera position.

But you could have both on the screen without any problem no? If you want them.

a few additions/changes to make the above radial menu idea better and more user friendly
    1. the radial menu could be hot-keyed to the space bar for easy access
    2. in this version of the UI could have commands such a repare, attack, patrol in the center of the radial menu ring as well as showing the current build queue
    fac_ui_1.png
this version of the radial menu could be used when selecting units such a the dox or boom bot because it would contain commands found on the side of the ui such as previously mentioned repare, attack, patrol commands

sounds like a solution looking for a problem to me
consoles did it due to a lack of a mouse support, rather than it being easier
this method covers up the centre of the screen, which is normally a bad thing - it could get in the way. having the method change at different zoom levels is inconsistent, and so counter to helping people learn the system.
fine as an option, more options never hurt, but I wouldn't want it as the default.

Good idea! So, basically a radial menu version of the buttons on the right hand panel, like "stop", "patrol", "reclaim", etc.?

Having no visible and editable build queue is totally not a problem I had to make up. It's laughable that we don't have that. So, given the lack of the build queue I had this idea to actually show the build queue of several factories at the same time. As I already said, the build queue and its feature to be shown for several factories at the same time - each showing its own build queue, so you don't need to click through them all if you want to know what they are producing, in case you can't remember - is the main idea. The radial build menu is something that just presented itself to be added.

Although true the lack of a proper queue is a problem, it's not one that requires a radial menu necessarily. That does need fixing and a radial menu would be a nice option. (Especially for disabled gamers, could you imagine playing this with the game with only one hand. :O)

I think this would be a good idea if it was optional.

I've been saying it should be an option in the settings menu for people that preference to use this type of menu UI.

Basically yes having command buttons in the middle of the radial menu would make it simpler to give commands to selected factory's/units and help reduce the skill gap between players that use hotkeys and those that don't, I'm not saying using the radial menu would be faster than using hotkeys but it would be faster than moving your mouse to the bottom/side of the screen to give orders and back again.

Also would have the benefit of being transparent. It's a lot easier to figure that you can tell a factory to send the unit's it produces to move or attack or assist or patrol after being produced if those buttons are floating above the factory (or unit) rather than on the sidebar. Of course this is a moot point for people who have access to a tutorial (which no one does!) or experience with similar games (sup com.)

true that is pretty much what i am trying to say this type of radial menu UI helps to lower the learning curve for new players by visually showing the commands that can be used by selected units/factory's
