Planetary Annihilation on Linux is just a catastrophy. (In particular Coherent-UI failures)

This whole video is just riddled with bugs.

I play terrible (I got a call near the beginning for a job offer ..that I accepted. I also wasn't putting in much of an effort after having to reconnect that many times), watever, that's not the point.

Look at how many times the User interface disappears or something locks up and I have to restart the game. at 0:00 I can't rotate around the planet PA seems to think ctrl is being held down and my arrow keys are thus redirected to zoom in and out. I have to restart to get a good look at the spawn points and to fix this for the rest of the game. (I end up not having the time to choose)

    non linux-specific bugs :

Virtually all throughout the video, (35:00) you can see me desperately attempting to double click icons (to select all of that type) ...in vain.

then at 47:00 48:48 you can see two engies unable to pathfind around a tiny lake.

then at several points beyond 30:00 you can see orbital fighters pathfinding for ages and then taking a longer route than what is natural.

It's a little unclear what's going on all the time. Did you have any crashes or were you killing the game each/every time you were having an issue? Also when reporting issue you should make sure you have mods disabled.

At one point the the build bar fails to display but tooltips are functioning. This means the interface hadn't crashed and could instead be an issue with your drivers (or something, rather strange indeed). Please provide info on your video card and what drivers you are using.

Eek, what happened to nice tatsujb? Bad day when you made this thread title?

Anyway, I'm curious about the stuck Ctrl key you seemed to have. Did you try pressing Ctrl again to make it unstuck? Was your mouse or focus outside of PA when you pressed Ctrl initially? I notice that the Unity bar is there, so I am wondering if that grabbed the Ctrl key release and PA never got it. How often has that happened for you? Every game? Every other game?

I think you can see if the drivers are the cause of the UI crashes by using the --software-ui flag when you start PA. That's supposed to turn off hardware-acceleration for Coherent (but not the engine of course).

    bad day tatsu.

anyways I haven't been able to play much at all ever since I switched to linux. It's really been an endeavor and the coherent UI issues have just gotten more frequent.

Ctrl did not unstuck the situation.

my mouse my have been outside yeah. once cvery four games. but coherent crashes every single one multiple times anytime my APM goes up too high.

i'll try the flag, tell you how it goes.

    What about F5?
    Was it not working?
Did you forgot to try it?

I forget it yeah, but half of those issues don't get fixed by f5 so I grew accustomed to alt-f4ing

I have since had an occurrence of this issue but instinctively and immediately reselected the fabbers and the build bar was then displayed. I'm pretty sure this issue must be caused by the workaround/hotfix used for the following bug: PA#2392.

It's not caused by workaround, but for same problem why BadAccess originally occur. Workaround/hotfix didn't fix actual problem, but make Coherent handle this error gracefully so whole process didn't crash just because one renderer crashed.

Yep, wording mistake on my part. I meant to say it was caused by the remnants of that bug (not hotfix itself, which is working wonders!).
