Been catching up on the kerfluffles going on lately - heads up to Uber, you might want to change your store page a bit more to fit what you're selling (since it's no longer early access / promised future features / etc) Store Page: AFAIK custom formations don't exist. Although if they do, someone please inform me because I damn well want them! It's not built to mod. Well, maybe the underlying tech is sort of there, but we definitely can't create our own units, gametypes, or maps. A solar system builder is not a modding tool. And nobody buying it with the intent to mod is going to be impressed. Nor can you actually run your own server. You can host a game with custom rulesets, but that's it. Shape up the text to reflect reality - stop getting disappointed buyers. As noted below, you can mod in units, just not gametypes or specific maps. Which is great! Just perhaps keep the text up to date with the current progress and don't say we've got what we don't have yet. Notably, it would be much clearer to say "Host your mods on our servers and easily allow other players to connect and play with you!" It's also good to note that the entire 'built to Mod' section isn't in the Humble page, or the Steam page. FAQ Page Minor quibble here - just noticed that the Origin link on the "Where can I get the game?" is no longer working. Kind of looks unprofessional since EA isn't selling the game at all anymore.
Custom formations did get cut from the game and that should be remoed. Running your own server is not currently an option but should be soon. Good catch on those two. Modding is certainly a core feature of PA and I'm not sure why you think it isn't possinble. Have you downloaded the mod manager yet? We have some pretty impressive mods up there already.
Go to the modding forums, there are some epic mods there. Also: custom formations is still possible, it just requires a ui mod, it was in for a bit, but was pretty first pass. It was moderately useful though.
Custom formations are still supported by the engine, but the UI element to enable it was removed because the feature wasn't polished enough. I agree that doesn't qualify (yet) as being advertisable. Focusing on the Modding part, just reinforcing what the previous posters have said: Custom units and server-side mods are already supported, and many are available. There's already more mods for PA than there ever were for Sup Com, although alot more (but not all) are focused on client side for now, as the server-side modding is a more recent addition.
I was under the strong impression that we couldn't add new units / weapons / etc to the game yet. I'm entirely thankful to be corrected on that point! Honestly, I just want people to stop claiming Uber is lying to them when it's just a matter of cleaning up some of the promised vs available now features.
Not really. There's over 150 mods on PAMM. How many distinct mods were released for SupCom? Edit: I count 108 on the released mods list on the gaspowered forums
The only one I had was the Alien Nation mod which added a giant ton of units. Those were pretty awesome. Point being it was a really big mod, don't think there's anything of that calibre for PA yet but I don't keep track of the modding scene so I could be wrong.
Did you count both the Current and Old Released Mod list? What about going back through all 63 pages of Mod talk to compile a full list? Mike
We have some very good mods in the game, but they are extremely minor in comparison to what is actually being advertized because we do NOT have access to the server files so modding is very very very limited right now, there is no way to current add in brand new units or add in entirely new structures like shield generators, or create a total conversion mod because of this. It's one of the many reasons why this game should never be an online only game because it hinders massively on the modding capabilities. There are some great mods out, but there are a lot of the same type of mods as well, coloring mods, changing the UI interface a bit and replica balancing mods I've seen at least 3 I think already. So that point in my opinion that the OP had is still very valid at this moment in time. Would love to see custom gametypes, new types of biomes and the cliff mod is really awesome thats available but again so so limited right now.
Alot of the old released list are duplicates, and it would take hours to get a full picture. Furthermore there are many mods that were made for PA and subsequently removed, and many more WIP that aren't on PAMM. I think it's a fair statement. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope...
I'm happy to be corrected but, aren't those mods still "prototype"? in what i mean, only the models can be changed, and swapped with current existing units? you cant actually create a "new" unit entirely yet? or the mods don't actually show up in the game yet? only on that sandbox mod?
Entirely new units can be added. The only limitations we currently have are: Size of mod. Not a hard limit, but Uber discourage massive server-side mods due to the upload/download required. Only 1 mod that changes the unit roster, or a specific existing unit, can be active at once, because the list of units & unit blueprints are single files that must be replaced to modify them.
About this: Size of mod. Not a hard limit, but Uber discourage massive server-side mods due to the upload/download required. That is funny. I have some sort of an idea how much space mods take and I know how much bandwidth their lobby browser was using for the longest time.
Actually that's a good point Original source: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/coming-up-soon-server-mods.59738/#post-931451
