I think one of the TA mods on Spring Engine sported the ability to move some static structures such as laser towers with air transports. Adding this capability to PA might make static defenses more popular as siege and area denial units, because one's investment wouldn't be tied down to a single location. This would probably need some extra nerfs to compensate, like -50% movement speed on the transports while carrying a static structure.

Sounds way too easily abused. Especially with things like Catapults and Pelters.

I don't see why static structures should be able to be moved. It also doesn't quite make sense to me. Buildings need foundations to be laid/built.

Defensive structures are supposed to be tied down to a single location. That's the drawback which allows them to be much more effective at destroying units.

Why not just move some fabricators where you want to build the structures?

If this was limited to small structures (towers) and it maybe costs some metal to "weld" the unit back to the ground.
Maybe if it also required a specialsied transporter (wich sports the nessesary micor-engineer function).
The unit would have to be air or orbital transporter (making it hard to use in combat areas).

Then I could see it be useable and balanced.
It should not be possible for anything bigger then a tower, especially not factories or artillery.
And there is the big question if it is not just easier to send some Air Engineers to build one in place anyway?

Abilities like those are often giving to a "mobile" oriented faction. The Eldar in Dawn of War games had something like this, I think.
Same for the protoss in SC 2 if I remember right (not sure about those).

UEF factories could move around on their own. I never really played as Protoss.

I was certain the protoss had something like "move cannon from one place to another, as long as both are in a pylon".
Yes, the terrans in SC 1 + SC 2 have a ton of buildings that could go into "flight" mode.
The SupCom UEF had a experimental Mobile Factory. Basically a land batttleship crossed with a mobile shield generator and a T2 Factory (if I remmber right). But this worked like all the toher mobile factories in SubCom.

Edit: The part with the Protoss cannon was a old SC2 development idea, that was dropped due to other abilities.
