I am somewhat annoyed that the game is not DRM free yet. I would like to show some friends this game via lan party so they can go buy it themselves, but that is not possible. If I remember correctly, DRM free servers/bundled server for GW were promised for launch. Instead, we got a random death star. I'm not saying that the death star isn't cool; I'm just annoyed that Uber decided to spend time making some random new feature at the expense of keeping their promises to the early access supporters. What gives?
according to the devs they have a developer on it for some time, they are working on it but it's just not finnished
Yes they used offline servers indeed. No they were not in a state that could be handled by the average user. Though I wonder why brian now states it won't be soon. Everything is soon. Always
Yeah, Uber's said they are working on offline mode, but the server currently isn't very friendly for your average user to use. They want to get it polished and worked on so that it's a solid and usable product when they release. They could theoretically give us the server now, but it'd likely be a mess in terms of user friendlyness currently.
Does Uber really think that if they fix the game's problems post launch, everyone will give it a second try and re review it? Sigh...
Not everyone, still I think many of the better reviewers will give the game a second look. I think Uber are unfortunately getting hit harder than they should due to a couple of external factors: 1: There is a general back lash against Kickstarter projects at the moment, the current 'wisdom' of the internet states that all Kickstarter projects fail and therefore a high profile (and quite early adopter) of Kickstarter like PA is a prime target for such accusations (I would argue that PA proves the opposite, it's a good game with fantastic potential that would never have existed without KS and personally I would back the project again- it isn't perfect but then neither are many much higher profile publisher backed games). 2: There is movement 'against DRM' at the moment and I think many people misunderstand what that really means. PA is very light on DRM as it stands- all you need is a login. The complete set of game files are fully accessible and open to tinkering with as you wish (it is possible for example, for you to switch commander skins around for your own use, if you want to try one out you don't have- only you will be able to see that commander as the one you replaced will be displayed for others in a game). The only thing missing right now is the server, which we know is coming. You can install PA on any machine without so much as a licence code, and you can lend your login details for someone else. Uber really aren't that bad when it comes to this. If you want an example of the other end of the scale, technically Microsoft tie a licence of Windows to a single machine based on the mac address (which is usually tied to the motherboard), and if that changes they expect you to buy a new copy despite the old one not being in use- now that is DRM.
I wonder. It may end with news headlines "PA releases server" in some major media. That may actually be a good thing once it happens.
You think they screwed up. We get it. They are working on it. What is persistently holding it in thier face going to bring anyone? Nothing. Hmm, I am not an average user. So if you need anyone for futher testing I would be willing to be guinea pig I can propably handle it and my own "unpolished" programming works prepare me for any barebone-ness you could throw at me.
