Is anyone being able to update/install the game using the PA launcher?

There seems to be quite a severe updating issue preventing players from starting the game.

I downloaded and installed the launcher onto a machine that has never had pa on it before as an experiment. Worked first time no issue so I think there is obviously a specific set of circumstances that lead to this.

For those with this issue, the easiest solution appears to be run the game through steam for now. Once we can narrow down what's the actual cause we can submit it to uber as a support ticket to get it fixed. At the moment it looks like a dependence issue relating to coherent requiring so old DirectX files not included with later versions...

Thanks for looking into this. I'm curious, what does DirectX have to do with unpacking compressed files?

Oh your talking about decompressing files, apologies a few people have been having an issue starting the launcher. I think steam solves both issues... As for unpacking, I'm not sure why it wouldn't work, maybe certain anti virus programmes are preventing it working?

I'm only running Microsoft's AV, and since only some of the "bundle" files seem to be affected and I don't get any alarms from the AV, it doesn't seem plausible that this an AV issue.

Yeah, just a thought... I had this a while a go during beta and running the launcher multiple times eventually got it through. After that it behaved fine. Actually thinking about it there are some community made launchers available (would link but on my phone....) If you go to the mods forum and to released mods section and have a look in there for launcher...

Had a look and can't find it, though I'm certain an alternative launcher was mentioned in another thread... I think we need @SXX to help further with all this...

I hope not too many people who bought the retail version are affected by this bug, as it prevents them from even starting the game. CC @neutrino @BradNicholson to make sure Uber is aware of this issue.

I've installed. But the words single player and multiplayer are phased out so I can't click on them. However all other users seem to have galactic war instead. Why can't I click it ?

try removing all mods.

I just installed it today.
In paralell to the steam version. Worked like a charm.

Of course you have to keep in mind that mods are managed on windows user level, not installation level.
And that PAMM can only launch one of them.

If you are using a mod manager (like PAMM), jsut use it to disable all mods in it.

Otherweise you have to do it the hard way.
[your user profile]\AppData\Local\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\mods\rPAMM\ui\mods\
The file "ui_mod_list.js" defines wich mods are used.
save the current version and repalce it with one containing this:

Any difference between launcher and Steam? Isn't it better to just use it on Steam?

Steam can sometimes cause issues with the game, running the game directly can be used to fix bugs. But I had none, was just going it for the sake of trying/faster switch to PTS.

Only difference is how you choose PTE (shorter in launcher) and that you have to manually log into the launcehr (not automatic login option for launcher). You don't have to log into paly fab eitehr way.

I used both the PA launcher and the GO launchers successfully. I didn't even need to use the GO one but I made a video.

The described issues sound like "folder rights being damaged". Windows non-servers have those from time to time (it is perhaps the only OS that can't properly work with it's own FS).

Just try deletign the whole folder and installing it again. That often helps. Or at least the installer/deletion fails, telling you that some even higher rights are damaged.
I make it a habit to never install any games into the programm folder. The right situation is just too strikt on that folder.

I don't believe this is a rights issue, as I tried to uninstall and then reinstall the game into different folders without success. Others have reported similar experiences.

Yes, steam worked without a problem, but the launcher didn't work at all.
