I just paid for the game and downloaded the installer from the Uber store. When I try to run the process crashes and Windows states: UberLauncher.exe has stopped working And the process exits. If I look at the log file it only contains the line: [15:56:40.000] INFO Log file C:\Users\Petrik\AppData\Local\Uber Entertainment\UberLauncher\UberLauncherLog.txt opened Which makes me believe the process probably died while trying to load itself (or the DLLs it depends on). I've attached my dxdiag.txt file and a screenshot of running DependencyWalker on the UberLauncher. There are a few DLLs missing but I'm not sure where to get them from. Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Petrik
Hello, Your video card is outdated and no longer supported by AMD: Code: Card name: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1) Driver Version: 8.97.10.6 Driver Date/Size: 4/26/2013 00:28:10, 1103904 bytes You will want to upgrade your video card (get a new one) so that you can get the latest driver updates. PA is extremely sensitive to driver versions and demands the latest driver for optimal performance. That could also be why the Uber Launcher crashed on start up. Also, please download these if you have not done so already: DirectX June 2010: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 Visual C++ 2012: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679 While PA does not use DirectX, Coherent UI does. As such, the latter requires DirectX to run, otherwise, you would get an invisible launcher window.
Darn that wasn't quite the answer I was hoping for but in any case thanks for the quick diagnosis. I updated the DirectX drivers but that didn't make a difference and I already have VS2012 installed so the C++ run time was already there. I guess I'll have to shell out for a new graphics card then
No, it's totally incorrect. Can you please do not post things like this if you're not understand specifics? Basically information posted by @kjotak109 isn't really valid and PA can run fine on your graphics card except few glitches caused by old drivers. Though you'll need to replace built-in drivers of Windows 8.1 before you can play PA. You have AMD legacy graphics drivers that distributed together win Windows 8+, but those lack of OpenGL support and will cause game crash. Unfortunately AMD drivers installer unable to replace drivers properly so you need to do that manually using this how-to: http://steamcommunity.com/app/233250/discussions/2/648817378357910399/ PS: Unfortunately crash of launcher isn't actually related to your drivers at all.
Sorry SXX, but that is not correct. I was running a HD 4850 with the latest possible drivers, and, yes, while I could start and play PA, the "few glitches" you're mentioning actually were semi-regular, random crashes and a lot of missing ingame features (such as missing starting numbers, units during interplanetary transfer not being shown etc.). I "solved" the issue by switching to a different graphics card altogether.
When every single match is a gamble, when every game might crash without prior notice and when you're missing vital information from multiplayer, the experience is very frustrating and actually worse than simply not being able to play.
Problem with icons might appear/disappear one day. Crashes also isn't that simple issue that affect 100% of games while some players might be not able to just go and buy new GPU. So promoting misinformation like "no it's won't work" because there is bugs it's wrong thing from my point of view.
